About Me

Kitty Lipski has been a theatrical designer since 2011. Lipski first took part in the design process during her junior year of High School. A group of colleagues, including herself, decided to expand on a hobby of making full-length movie musicals and created their own theater company: OFC Creations (still in operation). OFC Creations mounted multiple productions in a local theater space that were entirely student-run and produced. Lipski's personal responsibility for each show included costume design, makeup and hair design, props management, wardrobe supervision, scenic design, and scenic painting.
With this experience (and the previous film experience) Lipski developed a style and process which worked for her early on in her career. She learned firsthand the demands and tribulations of designing and creating entire shows on shoestring budgets, and in high-stress situations.
Lipski's post-secondary credentials include a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College, received in May of 2016 in Theatrical Design and Technology. Her training included a concentration on costumes with a side focus on scenic painting. During her time at Emerson, Lipski worked on over 30 productions under various titles and was employed as the costume shop’s Crafter for 3 years.
Although Lipski continues to hone and refine her craft, branching into new styles and periods, she is not without her favorites. Her favorite style is one playfully referred to as, “historical fantasy." To Lipski, this brings to mind productions not rooted in any time period or one which is open to interpretation or heavy concept work (See Marvelous Oz or Richard III). One of her inclinations while designing is to link characters into different points in history to give them context against each other and ground them in a world the audience knows.
Her work is notoriously detail oriented; whenever possible she hand-dyes, embroiders, beads, or paints her costumes. Proper distressing and detail are what makes a piece authentic (See Follow My Light or the Costume Crafting page).
Naturally, Lipski is constantly searching for new challenges, time periods, and concepts to tackle.
